- the real life WALL-E | the saturn times
01.29.2022 Written by Dash Have you ever watched the movie WALL-E? The one where the robot’s on a planet all by himself? Well, something similar to this film happened on Mars in real-time. The truth is, NASA has launched robots called Mars Rovers ever since 1996. Mars Rovers resemble a robot made from satellites and solar panels. They have robotic necks and heads, and they move around like any other human. There have only been five rovers to ever touch the surface of Mars which include Sojourner, Curiosity, Spirit, Opportunity, and the newest addition, Perseverance. There are only 4 names on this list as in reality, Spirit and Opportunity are twins. They launched on the same day, same time, had the same mission, and explored Mars as siblings. Unfortunately, all beings, sentient or man-made, have an expiration date. This applies to Sojourner and the twins. Although Sojourner’s story is sad, the twin’s story is guaranteed to pull your heartstrings. Citations NASA. (n.d.). Mars. NASA. - the NBA is forcefully pushing through co | the saturn times
01.30.2022 Written by Jeevanr Inbasagaran The NBA is up there with the NFL in popularity these days, and like all sports organizations, it had to find a way to combat the pandemic. When Covid-19 first emerged in the NBA in 2020, it immediately shut down the entire season until they opened the bubble. The bubble was an isolated stadium in Orlando in which all players stayed in hotels and were constrained within the area until the season ended. As effective as it was at enforcing safety, the games felt empty. This was both literally and figuratively, as there was an absence of people, fans, and home crowd support. However, with the new surge in Covid-19 cases, the president of the NBA has decided to keep moving forward with the season even though many teams are missing more than half of their rosters due to Covid. In my opinion, I think this is unreasonable for two reasons. First of all, the safety of many players is compromised. Considering that the vaccine is less effective with the new Omicron variant, players are very susceptible to the virus. On top of that, the entertainment factor of the NBA is affected negatively with the popular teams and players being absent due to contracting the virus. As a result, many of the games are unfair, and this can make games less exciting to watch. However, the NBA is focused on the potential financial loss that they could suffer if they postpone or make major changes to the season. However, is it important to prioritize the health of players or the financial factors? That is the question that many sports teams will be forced to answer as the world continues to battle Covid-19. the NBA is forcefully pushing through COVID-19

meet miuccia prada, continued 01.27.2022 Written by Arav Jaswal Besides her dominant presence in fashion, Ms. Prada has a whole other list of achievements. Upon graduating from the University of Milan with a Ph.D. in political science, she trained to become a mime at the Teatro Piccolo. Furthermore, she was a member of the Italian Communist Party and a pivotal figure in the Milan women's rights movement during the 1970s. Ms. Prada's hard work of expanding her household's corporation into an internationally acknowledged trademark has not gone disregarded. In 1993, Miuccia achieved the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) international award for her work in designing various different accessories. In 2013, she was awarded the International Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards. A year later, in 2014, Forbes recognized her as the 75th most powerful woman globally. In the end, Miuccia Prada has truly been an inspiration to all up-and-coming designers, as she proved that one can achieve success through simplicity, even in fashion. Her presence remains emblazoned in the world of fashion, even today, and her brand is pivotal in shaping modern modeling, silhouettes and of course, fashion. 01.29.2022 Written by Dash The Sojourner Rover was the first Rover to land on Mars. Its mission was (as NASA put it) to,” demonstrate a low-cost method for delivering a set of science instruments to the Red Planet.” Straying from its original mission which was meant to last seven days, Sojourner surpassed expectations, eventually shutting down and sending its last transmission on September 27th, 1997, its 83rd day on Mars. The twins (commonly known as the Adventure Twins), named Spirit and Opportunity, were launched on July 7th, 2003 and landed in January of 2004. As NASA once again says, their mission was “to search for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils for clues to past water activity on Mars.” Like Sojourner and the other Rovers, the twins also surpassed their expected designed life expectancy, Spirit is said to have lived 20 times longer than expected. Unfortunately, Spirit’s last transmission was 6 years after its landing, on March 22th, 2010, in Troy (A place on Mars). Opportunity outlived its twin by several years but unfortunately, Opportunity, (affectionately known as Oppy) went silent after its battery drained during its last transmission with the space station during one of Mars’s greatest dust storms in 2018. Thus, the twin’s journey came to a close with their mission having been completed with a total of over 300,000 images taken and many different discoveries. The most bitter part of this is knowing that during the dust storm, Oppy sent its final transmission which said “My battery is low and it's getting dark.” Fortunately, there are still two Rovers still alive and thriving. However, the twins and Sojourner will forever be missed. The future of Mars is still as unknown as it ever was, but thanks to the Rovers we’ve learned enough to know that Mars still has a future. the real-life WALL-E continued

meet miuccia prada 01.27.2022 Written by Arav Jaswal Over the years, designer brand, Prada, has been continuously linked with high-class modernity, or extravagance. Today, over a hundred years later, Prada has left its imprint on the fashion world as one the most monumental fashion marques ever. However, there was a time, not too long ago, when this name was just a bijou leather merchandise shop in Milan, Italy. After being established in 1913, the establishment’s niche consisted of simple leather goods and British luggage bags. Mario Prada, the man that started this venture, believed that women do not have any authority to be involved in such a business. Despite trying his best to stay true to his word, this all changed when Mr. Prada found out his son had zero interest in continuing his father’s creation. With time, his daughter, Luisa, took over the endeavour and ran it until 1978. The rest is history, as Miuccia Prada succeeded her mother and took over the family business. In 1984, Miuccia Prada's first “eye-opening” design came to the world. It was a line of luxurious black handbags fabricated from woven nylon. They became an overnight success and are known as the classic Prada handbag. By 1989, Miuccia had designed her first women's wear collection, which was regarded highly for dropped waistlines and narrow belts. These particular designs were honoured for their quality fabrics, clean lines, and fundamental colours. - breaking through time and space | the saturn times
breaking through time and space 01.12.2022 Written by Sameer Varma A break in space time through higher dimensions is something of a mystery to unravel. The slightest idea of something being able to cause real life teleportation is something that would blow even the sharpest of minds. Imagine this: you take a piece of paper and mark two X’s on it within a horizontal axis. The distance from one to another is lengthy. However, if you were to fold the paper so that both xs are lined up on top of each, and poke a pencil through the paper, the distance from one to another is relatively 0. That is what a wormhole accomplishes. Wormholes bend the fabric of space-time, so that if you were to go through one; say in our solar system, you would come out in a completely different solar system or even galaxy. Wormholes are highly speculative, though, and are only a solution to the Einstein Field Equations. Highly theoretical, and yet amazing, wormholes are a reminder to the human race that the wonders of the universe are still to be discovered in the mystery we call life.

01.27.2022 Written by Venisha Punjabi The year is 2022, and the coronavirus is still yet to be conquered. We were all well-informed and up-to-date on COVID 19 news! Every time life appears to be returning to normal after a horrific year and a half of lockdowns and new breakouts, something new emerges. It's COVID's new Omicron variation this time. The highly transmissible Omicron variant, according to new modelling released today by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), will drive hospital admissions to unprecedented rates in the coming weeks, as case counts approach levels never seen before in Canada. Nationally, one out of every four tests is positive. With an average of 10,000 new cases recorded every day, going back to the way things were is no longer an option. In this instance, adapting to the "new normal" is the best course of action. But how long will it take for everything to start recovering in the future? It will be a new world with a new economy, but how will we know when that moment has arrived? Citations Tsekouras, Phil. “There's Always Been a Hospital Capacity Problem in Brampton. 01.12.2022 Written by Anzar Technology: does it make our lives easier or more complicated? Both. Technology makes our lives easier by a substantial amount. It makes us feel connected to the world and helps us with our daily activities, but it also makes our lives difficult. For example, since it makes us feel connected to the world, it can also affect us in a negative way through cyber bullying and tech obsession. Cyber bullying, which is using technology to bully other people, may lead to depression, mental illnesses and even suicide. Furthermore, being obsessed with technology can be detrimental to our lives. We may become more lethargic, socially inactive, and stop communicating as much with family and friends. To avoid harm, it is important to establish a good balance when we use technology. the current that powers us all
